Hashimoto's Disease

LeeAnn’s story:

Last June, after returning home from an overseas trip LeeAne woke in the early hours of the morning feeling very strange. Her heartbeat rate was elevated to the point of rapid, and she describes a feeling similar to “having liquid pouring into my left arm.

This uncomfortable sensation was followed by an intense chest pain, “like a heavy punch”. The symptoms became lessened as the day wore on, but the next few days she experienced extreme fatigue coupled with an inability to concentrate.

She already had an appointment booked for a checkup with her GP, so rather than see another doctor she decided to wait for her appointment, about a week later.

Five days after the first episode described above, the chest pain returned.

Because LeAnn had just returned from a trip involving flying, it was decided to run tests for Deep Vein Thrombosis, as well as an ECG. These tests were run immediately, and the results showed an ectopic heartbeat, which she had known about for years, but the ECG, MRI and X-ray checks produced no abnormalities.

Next day, an Ultrasound test on her legs and blood test for hormone levels was done.

A week or so later, the tests showed only that TSH levels o 12, which is the lower end of normal. It was decided to wait and re-tast in a few weeks.

Two months later, further blood tests were done, which showed an antibody positive, and the resultant diagnosis was Hashimoto’s disease.

The prognosis given was that this is a life-long problem, which can be controlled well with pharmaceutical intervention. The anxiety which LeeAnn felt dissipated upon knowing what is the diagnosis, since she now had a clear idea what is happening in her body. She has now a reason for the symptoms of fatigue, lack of concentration, slight memory loss, anxiety, insomnia and a rapid, intermittent “pulsing sensation” in her throat.

Because she knew about, and believed strongly in its efficacy, she decided to use the methodology in PSMtm, to attempt to control the symptoms, and has agreed to monitor the responses.

Since commencing the treatment, LeeAnn has found that her sleep patterns are improving, concentration seems to be returning to normal, and she does not recall experiencing the throat symptoms for a few days.{29th September 2003}
